The lack of quarterbacks in round one could cause more action on the trade front
Just 48 hours until the 2025 NFL draft kicks off from Green Bay, and it feels like more and more pieces of information prove that no one agrees on this quarterback class. The perceptions from many are that this class is lacking star power or lacking quality in general.
For instance, the Tennessee Titans might be backed into a corner to kick off the draft depending on how you view quarterback Cam Ward, who looks like the No. 1 overall pick at this point. According to NFL insider Adam Schefter (subscription required), one general manager stated that Ward would be the No. 7-rated quarterback in last year's class.
During the 2024 draft, there was an onslaught of quarterbacks selected, all within the first 12 picks. The seventh quarterback of the class wasn't drafted until the fifth round when the New Orleans Saints selected Spencer Rattler with the No. 150 pick. That is a wide range from pick No. 12 to No. 150.
The general manager of another team said there are "no surefire quarterback solutions" and the top-rated passer in this class -- Ward -- would be the seventh-rated passer in last year's class. "And I don't think it's close," he added. - Schefter
Another thought is that only two quarterbacks are likely to get selected among the first 32 picks. Ward being one, and opinions vary between Jaxson Dart and Shedeur Sanders as the other. The arguments continue to rage on as we get closer to the draft.
A run on quarterbacks often pushes quality players down the board, like we saw last season, but a lack of quarterbacks could force teams into moving up the board to snag one of those players this year. Could we see a litany of moves on opening night as teams jockey for position to upgrade their teams?
