The Right Man Won, They Don’t Need To Fight Again!

By Isaac Nyamungu

Chris Eubank Jr savored the biggest win of his professional boxing career after outclassing Conor Benn by unanimous verdict at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 27.

The pair - ‘born rivals’ gave everything in a brutal twelve-round showdown. Benn, 28, the naturally smaller competitor, began fast and caught Eubank Jr with his best shots. However, Eubank, 35, a more seasoned boxer with a weight and height advantage, found a home for combinations and ended the match tremendously strong.

His dad, Chris Eubank Sr, made a dramatic entry before linking with Nigel Benn, Conor’s father, at the ringside.

A family enmity came into play again, drawing the attention of the boxing fraternity.

After the fight Benn declared his desire to quickly avenge the first defeat of his 24-fight professional career, which has stalled in recent years amid his war to clear his name after two failed voluntary drugs tests. The deferral caused his initial contest against Eubank Jr to be annulled at short notice in October 2022.

“Oi congrats @ChrisEubankJr but this ain’t over,” Benn wrote on X after the match.

“Yeah, I want the revenge man. I want my revenge,” he said at his post-fight press conference.

Elsewhere, former World Champion Carl Froch has downplayed the possibility of a rematch between the two rivals.

“It was an entertaining fight. It was edge of the seat stuff, especially towards the end when Eubank sort of got in front of Conor Benn and just opted to stand still, I was impressed and thought it was good performance from both of the guys. Conor Benn didn’t deserve to win so the right man won. I’m not sure the rematch should even be a thing. The first match was great. But we’ve seen it. Now we know what's gonna happen,” said ex-World Champion Carl Froch in an exclusive interview with PokerStrategy.com
