Three takeaways from LSU's victory over Milwaukee

For the first time in 2026, Jay Johnson and the LSU baseball took the field at Alex Box Stadium as they welcomed Milwaukee into town for a three-game series. The Tigers are coming off another National Championship, the eighth championship in program history, and looking to go for number nine this year.

That dream started at 2 PM on a picture-perfect afternoon for baseball in Baton Rouge. Casan Evans, one of LSU's best pitchers out of the bullpen last year, got the start on the mound, and everything was going well for him until the top of the fourth inning. That's when the wheels fell off the wagon, and Milwaukee was able to take a 4-2 lead over LSU and chase Evans from the mound.

During Jay Johnson's tenure at LSU, the Tigers have had a flair for the dramatic, no matter who they are playing. We have seen them have to make multiple comebacks in the past few years. Today was no different. LSU would have to dig its way out of a hole if it wanted to win its first game of the season.

The Tigers did just that. LSU poured it on late and eventually won the game with a run rule victory, defeating the Panthers 15-5.

Here are three takeaways from today's game

Transfers already making an impact

Zach Yorke, Seth Dardar, and Trent Caraway are all new kids on the block for LSU this season, and each one of them was able to have a hit today. Not only did they have a hit, but Yorke and Dardar both had homers. Yorke hit a solo shot to give the Tigers their first lead of the season, and Dardar had a two-run bomb to cut the Milwaukee lead to 5-4 in the sixth inning.

Gavin Guidry is BACK

Man, it felt good to see Gavin Guidry back on the mound for LSU. After missing all of the 2025 campaign with an injury, I was excited to see how he has grown after a stellar season in 2024. Guidry entered the game to pitch in the top of the seventh inning, and he struck out the side, throwing 10 strikes out of 14 total pitches. He looked like he was in midseason form, which was an incredible sight to see.

Arrambide bombs are back

If I had to choose just one guy who I thought had an excellent day, it was Cade Arrambide. He went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI, one double, and a three-run homer to help put LSU back in the lead 8-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning. He also did a great job behind the plate catching for multiple different pitchers. He was the golden star for the Tigers on the diamond today, in my opinion.

LSU was able to claw its way back to victory after trailing 5-2 in this game. The Tigers start the 2026 campaign 1-0 and will be back in action tomorrow at 1 PM as they take on Milwaukee once again.
