Titans CB L'Jarius Sneed starting season on PUP list not as bad as it seems

The Tennessee Titans acquired cornerback L'Jarius Sneed via trade with the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2024 offseason. Sneed showed in the prior three seasons that he would be an asset to the Titans, but his 2024 performance was not what was expected. His production suffered not just because of struggling performance, but because he was placed on season-ending injured reserve with a quad injury.

Sneed was in the building for OTAs, despite not being cleared to play after undergoing a knee cleanout in May. Mike Borgonzi announced today that Sneed would start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, along with center Lloyd Cushenberry, who is recovering from an Achilles injury. Borgonzi spoke on both players at the Titans' press conference ahead of training camp on Tuesday.

"LJ has been working really hard here in the offseason to get back," Borgonzi said. "He's week-to-week right now ... He's making progress here. He's really worked hard. He's been here during the summer. He's heading in the right direction and we'll hopefully get him back here soon."

The current problem keeping Sneed from practicing is not the quad injury he suffered last season, but recovering from the knee procedure. This is actually good news because Sneed's knee issue is chronic, and once he recovers from this surgery, he will be more mobile than he was before the surgery. The quad was an acute injury, which seems to be fully healed at this point.

So, while Sneed and Cushenberry are starting the season on the PUP list, as soon as they can pass a physical, they will be activated to the main roster. In both cases, sooner is better than later.
