Top Missouri high school football coach resigns after reported rules violations
Jason Rogers, a rising high school football coaching star in the state of Missouri, has resigned from his position at Lee’s Summit North (Mo.), the school announced on Wednesday.
The second-year head coach, who replaced Jamar Mozee when he took an assistant coaching job at Nebraska in 2024, had been suspended since August 1 due to alleged rules violations. Last month, school leaders learned that Rogers violated state practice regulations by exceeding the 20-day summer cap for working with student-athletes.
According to a statement from the school though, more violations have occurred since then. That includes players participating in practices without physicals or proper registration. On Wednesday, Lee’s Summit North principal Tim Collins sent a letter to families notifying them of the coaching change.
It can be found below:
“Dear Bronco Football Families,
I am writing to share some difficult news about our football program. Earlier this month, we informed you that the district self-reported violations of Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) regulations related to no-contact days. At that time, the district took corrective steps to address lapses in policy and MSHSAA bylaws.
I am disappointed to share that since Aug. 1 additional violations have occurred, specifically a few students participating in practices without fully completing their physicals or the registration process.
At LSN, we believe all of our programs must meet high standards of compliance and care for students. Today the district accepted the resignation of Head Coach Jason Rogers, effective immediately. To provide consistency and stability for our athletes, Coach Deron Washington will continue serving as InterimHead Coach.
We are committed to supporting our players through this period of change.
I know this is not the start to the season anyone wanted, and I recognize how disappointing and disruptive this has been for our athletes. Please know that the decisions we make are rooted in protecting student safety and ensuring positive experiences. Privacy rules may sometimes limit what we can share, but never the seriousness with which we address these matters.
Our priority is to support our athletes, help them succeed, and protect the integrity of the program that means so much to our students, staff, and families. I am proud of how our Bronco football athletes are handling these changes, and I know our community will continue to support them. Thank you for your care for our students and for standing alongside them during this time. Please reach out to me or our Activities Director, Mike McGurk, if you would like to discuss the needs of your individual athlete.”
