Top Vikings Rumor Gets Yet Another Gust of Wind
Death and taxes. Those are said to be the constants. Consider, though, the merit of another: Vikings rumors surrounding available quarterbacks.
At this stage, landing Kyler Murray appears supremely likely. The very talented passer is soon to be set free, allowed to fly away from the Cardinals. Seeing him become a Viking to compete with J.J. McCarthy would make the offseason very exciting. Add yet another voice into the mix for Murray journeying to Minnesota.
The Vikings Rumor & Kyler Murray in MIN
The word gets relayed by Grant Gordon of the NFL website. The insight comes courtesy of Tom Pelissero. Consider the update
“If you’re Kyler and his agent, it makes a lot of sense to take advantage of this,” Pelissero said. “He’s never been a free agent before. He’s not interfaced with a lot of teams and executives since he selected in the draft back in 2019 and for Kyler, who’s going to be a free agent in 2027 after taking a one-year minimum deal this year it makes sense … to take his time and explore his options here before deciding to take the next important step in his career.”
Few thoughts to consider. First, there is indeed plenty of wisdom to take a breath. Consider options and do what’s best for oneself. No quibbles on this end.
Cardinals Vs Texans
Later on in the same piece, there’s the usual talking points. Mr. Murray is getting a beefy payday from Arizona, creating the conditions to play for cheap. Furthermore, the Vikings want McCarthy to have high-end competition.
Consider an assessment of what landing Murray would mean: “It’s also likely he would be a large favorite if the Vikings were to hold a QB1 competition with McCarthy.”
A final thought: “On Wednesday, Murray’s officially on the free market for the first time in his NFL career. Heading to Minnesota has all the makings of a prime landing spot in the waning days of his career as a Cardinal.”
In a matter of minutes, the Vikings will be allowed to chat with other passers. Quite possibly, a sturdy depth passer gets added. Somebody with experience and who can pinch hit at a moment’s notice makes a pile of sense. Even still, there would need to be someone to elevate the ceiling.
Keep in mind, folks, that Minnesota’s disappointing 2023 season involved needing four different quarterbacks due to injury. Minnesota’s 2025 season was disappointing largely due to injury and needing three different passers.
Last season, Kyler Murray completed 68.3% of his passes for 936 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. Note that he only played in five games. Meanwhile, J.J. McCarthy completed 57.6% of his passes for 1,632 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
Whoever is added at quarterback needs to be cheap since the Vikings don’t have a pile of cap space, even after all the moves in recent days.
Get ready for a wild time for Vikings football.
