Tyre West selected by Detroit in NFL draft seventh round

The NFL draft continued Saturday with rounds four through seven in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Former Tennessee defensive lineman Tyre West was selected by Detroit in seventh round (No. 222 overall).

He played at Tennessee from 2022-25, appearing in 48 games, including five starts. West recorded 65 tackles, 20.5 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, two forced fumbles and one safety.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive lineman appeared in 12 games in 2025, including two starts. West totaled 23 tackles, 7.5 tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and one pass breakup. His 7.5 tackles for a loss were tied for a team lead in 2025.

West competed in both the 2026 Senior Bowl and the 2026 American Bowl. He went to Tennessee from Tift County High School in Tifton, Georgia.

Tennessee has produced 395 all-time NFL draft picks, including the AFL draft which merged in 1967. 21 Tennessee players have been drafted during the Josh Heupel era.

The final day of the NFL draft on Saturday is televised by NFL Network, ABC and ESPN.
