UFC Fight Night 271 video: Lance Gibson Jr. upset TKOs Chase Hooper

Lance Gibson Jr. picked up his first UFC win in stunning fashion.

Coming in as a clear underdog against Chase Hooper, Gibson Jr. (10-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) had a lot to prove in his second promotional appearance on the prelims of UFC Fight Night 271 at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. At 2:56 of the first round, Gibson Jr. had Hooper (16-5-1 MMA, 8-5 UFC) out of sorts, earning his first UFC victory by TKO.

A beautiful short elbow while framing off a clinch attempt put Hooper on wobbly legs. It was a severely damaging strike, and Gibson Jr. immediately followed up with hard kicks and punches as Hooper attempted to grab hold to survive the moment. Gibson Jr. added a few knees to the head, and referee Blake Grice decided to dive between the two fighters to stop the action.

The Seattle crowd initially didn't appreciate the stoppage as Hooper, from Enumclaw, Wash., wound up on the losing side. However, during his post-fight interview, Gibson Jr. won over the fans by telling them all he was born just down the road in Seattle. He also poured out his heart about this moment being a dream come true for his first UFC win to come in his birthplace.

Gibson Jr.'s debut was a short-notice split decision loss against King Green in December. This fight was on a full camp, and he handed Hooper his second consecutive loss.
