UNC targets former Villanova guard in transfer portal

New head coach Michael Malone working to build a North Carolina a roster capable of returning to the Final Four for the first time since 2016, and that process begins now in the transfer portal

One of the players that the Tar Heels have reached out to is point guard Bryce Lindsay of Villanova. The veteran guard, who previously played at Texas A&M and James Madison before transferring to Villanova, has averaged 11.6 points and 2.0 assists while shooting 41.5% from the field and 37.7% from 3-point range.

Per Sam Kayser of League Ready, Lindsay has drawn interest not only from the Tar Heels but from more than a dozen other programs including Alabama, Baylor, Georgia, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Providence, St. John's, Texas, Texas Tech, UCLA, USC, Utah, and Vanderbilt.

This season, he was a key piece in Villanova’s turnaround, averaging 12.3 points, 2.1 assists and 2.1 rebounds for the Wildcats.

Consistency, however, has been an issue for Lindsay. Despite several outings with 20 or more points, he shot just 38.3% from the field. He had 11 games with two or fewer made field goals and seven games in which he scored six points or fewer.
