VIN'S PEOPLE: Miss Manatee All-Star fastpitch softball teams win Florida championships

A round of applause for the 10-and-Under and 8-and-Under Miss Manatee All-Star fastpitch softball teams, each of whom just won Miss Florida Championships in their respective divisions.

The 10U champs won their title at Jan Phyl Village Park in Winter Haven while the 8U champs won theirs at Christina Park in Lakeland.

The 10U All Stars are Ava Ferguson, Matelyn Favero, Natalie Hall, Reese Hamilton, Korie Hayman, Rhea Krolick, Sutton Miller, Kylie Nunez, Lillian Reagan, Kylie Samus, Ariana Uhlinger and Cali Walls. The coaches are head coach Ashley Brue and assistants Brandy Hamilton and Kendall Yoder.

The 8U All Stars are Vera Carr, Michelle Cosby, Kylie Evans, Georgia Geyer, Isla Grabiak, Claire Haertel, Lindsey Koehler, Lilly Keuhling, Olivia Martin, Adrianna Mata, Addison Pitts and Aleah Torres-Marte. The coaches are head coach Wayne Carr and assistants Ryan Bode, Zach Evans and Cody Geyer.

There were 58 teams in the entire Miss Florida Championship tournament and both Miss Manatee ballclubs went undefeated in their age divisions, which had 14 teams apiece.

· Happy trails to Mike Barber, retiring after 19 years as the Manatee School District’s communications director. Much respect to the ol’ Plant Panther flash and former colleague and many thanks for all the help over the past two decades.

· Manatee Technical College Practical Nursing student Galilea Sanchez-Velasquez will attend the Health Occupation Students of America’s 2025 International Leadership Conference beginning Wednesday in Nashville. Galilea, president of MTC’s HOSA chapter, was a gold medalist in the college-division phlebotomy contest at HOSA’s Future Health Professionals 2025 State Leadership Conference last April in Orlando. 

· Xtavia Bailey is 39. Again.

· Angel Colonneso, too.

· Salutes to Deputy Carlos Philpotts (30 years) Detective Carol Burd (20), Administrative Specialist Yina Guerrero (20) and Lieutenant Dan Dickerman (20) with the Emergency Services team for their careers with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

· Realize Bradenton has welcomed back Annie Breitinger to its Board of Directors. She was on the board in 2015-2021 and was board chair 2017-2021.

An active community member, Breitinger works with nonprofits.

· A bow to Blake Hospital RN Kim Muscarella, recipient of the DAISY Award, which honors nurses who go above and beyond to provide compassionate and skillful care, making a difference in the lives of patients and families.
