VOLLEYBALL: Doyle dominates as Claremore spikes Catoosa in Super Scrimmage opener

Addison Doyle stepped behind the service line, locked in and unleashed a barrage that all but sealed the match.

Four aces, including three in a row during a blistering mid-match run, helped Doyle cap off a dominant individual performance and send Claremore volleyball roaring past Catoosa 41-21 in the timed opening contest of the Lady Zebras’ five-match Super Scrimmage slate Friday at the Doug K. Mosier Athletic Complex.

Doyle was everywhere.

The junior standout recorded 4 kills, 2 blocks and a game-high 4 aces, injecting a jolt of energy into Claremore’s attack with every touch.

She wasn’t alone.

Senior Faith Caffey was a wall at the net, tallying 4.5 blocks, 3 kills and an ace, while Audrey Shaw and Ava Tanner chipped in 2 kills apiece. Freshman Lakyn Fuller added 2 aces, and Italian foreign-exchange student Asia Ianes notched 2 blocks late to punctuate the win.

The Lady Zebras exploded out of the gate with a 9-3 run, sparked by kills from Doyle and Caffey and an early block from the Caffey-Bella Hoisington duo.

After Catoosa cut it to 13-9 with a mini-surge led by Tinsley Mitchell, the Lady Zebras responded with their most lopsided stretch of the match — 12 of the next 13 points.

That avalanche was fueled by Doyle's devastating serve. With Claremore up 20-10, she delivered four aces while Caffey added a block, pushing the score to 25-10.

The Lady Indians (led by Mitchell’s 4 kills and a block) never recovered.

Lucianna Underwood added 2 kills and 2 blocks, while Emma DeArmond and Sydnee White notched an ace apiece during the final stretch, but the Lady Zebras' depth proved too much.

Claremore closed with authority when Ianes blocked back-to-back points, Doyle stuffed another at the net and Shaw sealed it with a kill.
