Breon Greene, Peoria High football
The senior quarterback put together a four-touchdown game in beating Morton, 38-34, in Class 5A second-round action on Saturday. His rushing TD with 28 seconds to play proved to the game winner as the Lions rallied from a 19-point deficit. Greene's 2-yard QB sneak gave Peoria High its first lead of the game at 30-27. He added a pair of passing TDs, finding Jaylen Rayford for 66 yards and a 74-yard scoring strike to Dereon Mays. Greene ran for 94 yards and threw for 227 yards as Peoria High heads to Oak Forest for a quarterfinal game.
Jayden Schmick, Dunlap football
The junior running back accounted for all four touchdowns in Dunlap's 28-21 win over Crete-Monee at the Class 6A second-round playoff victory on Saturday. Schmick found the endzone from 47 yards out in the first quarter, then added a 3-yard second quarter score. His one-yard score in the third quarter tied the game at 21-21. He scored the game-winning TD with 6:13 to send the Eagles (9-2) to the Elite Eight for a home quarterfinal game.
Evan Knobloch, Stark County cross country
The sophomore made a huge statement at the Class 1A state finals. Knobloch was the highest Peoria-area finisher, taking second place in the 157-field race. He covered the 3-mile historic Detweiller Park course in 14:46.25, edging out Tuscola senior Blake McLeese (14:46.45). This also gave Stark County its highest finisher in program history.
Hudson Scrivner, Washington soccer
The senior forward helped send Washington to the Class 2A state finals. Scrivner scored the go-ahead goal in last Monday's 2-0 win over Belleville Althoff at the Taylorville Supersectional. He then added two goals in Friday's 4-2 semifinal victory over Rock Island. His penalty kick goal helped keep Washington alive in the state title match before falling 3-2 in PKs to Chicago De La Salle for the program's highest finish. He ended the season with 45 goals.
