It's time to take a look at the standout high school performers from Stark County for the past week.
Your vote will determine who will be the Stark County High School Athlete of the Week for May 26-June 1. We will pick one girl and one boy. Each athlete’s credentials are listed above the poll — which will be live until 5 p.m. Thursday. The winners will be announced Friday morning on CantonRep.com.
Now, let's meet the candidates, who were selected by the Repository sports staff based on results submitted to the Rep.
Here's a look at the girls nominees for Stark County Athlete of the Week, in alphabetical order:
Taylor Brownsword, Jackson track and field
Cleared 5 feet, 4 inches to win the high jump at the Austintown Division I regional meet.
Irelyn Johnson, Marlington track and field
Won the 3,200 in 10:55.15 at the Austintown Division II regional meet.
Shanaray Kager, East Canton track and field
Won the discus with a throw of 146-8 at the North Royalton Division III regional meet.
Anna Keller, Perry softball
Pitched two complete games, striking out 20 and allowing just three runs in regional wins over Amherst Steele and Green, including a 13-strikeout performance in the latter game to send Perry to state.
Daniela Scheffler, Lake track and field
Swept the 1,600 (meet-record 4:47.24) and 3,200 (10:22.88) for the second straight year at the Austintown Division I regional meet.
Abby Seders, Jackson softball
Hit the go-ahead home run in the fifth inning of Jackson's reginal final win over Perrysburg, snapping the Yellow Jackets' 26-game winning streak and sending the Polar Bears to their first state tournament since 1986.
Here's a look at the boys nominees for Stark County Athlete of the Week, in alphabetical order:
Isaiah Barker, North Canton Hoover track and field
Won two events at the Austintown Division I regional meet, clearing 6-7 to win the high jump and leaping 23-6 to win the long jump, the event he won at state a year ago.
Nolan Bunner, Canton Central Catholic baseball
Pitched a three-hitter in shutting out Triway 3-0 in a Division V district final to snap its 17-game winning streak and send the Crusaders to regionals.
Landen Doll, Jackson baseball
Threw his second no-hitter of the season, this one coming in Jackson's 5-0 Division I district final win over Brunswick, as the Marshall University recruit struck out 14 with no walks in his 98-pitch performance to improve to 10-0.
Brice Fuller, Fairless track and field
Set a meet record at the Muskingum Division II regional by winning the 3,200 in 9:17.50.
Danny Holihan, North Canton Hoover baseball
Went 3-for-3, with two runs, an RBI and two of the team's seven steals in an 8-0 win over Massillon in a Division II district final.
Jayden Wilson, Perry track and field
Won the 400 in a season-best 48.34 seconds at the Austintown Division I regional meet.
