Vote now: Who is The Montgomery Advertiser's Vance Law Firm Athlete of the Week for March 17-21?
It's time to vote for the Montgomery area boys and girls athlete of the week, sponsored by Vance Law Firm.
A pair of Montgomery Catholic athletes swept the voting last week. Juan Escalante won the poll with 63% of votes after scoring two goals in the 3-1 win over Wetumpka. Kate Johnson claimed the girls poll, taking home 97% of votes after scoring twice in the 3-0 win over Wetumpka.
Nominees for athlete of the week come from the top performers of the week before. To nominate a top performer, have your coach email sports@montgomeryadvertiser.com.
Voting will last until Thursday at noon. Votes will not be accepted via email, only in the polls below.

Montgomery area boys athlete of the week nominations
- Montgomery Catholic's Scott Blancas scored a goal in the 2-0 win against Smiths Station.
- Opp's Nolan Brown drove in the go-ahead run in the 7th inning in an, 8-5, win against New Brockton. Brown's double produced 3 RBIs. He pitched 6 2/3 innings and struck out 8 batters.
- Opp's, 15-0, win against Florala was highlighted by a 2-run home run by Cash Harrell, whose stats included 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored and a double on 2-for-4 hitting.
- Opp's Grady Patterson hit 3-for-3 with 2 triples, a single, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored in the 15-0 win against Florala.
- Montgomery Catholic's Garrett Sanford allowed zero goals in a, 2-0, win against Smith's Station.
Montgomery area girls athlete of the week nominations
- Opp's Crislyn Birge hit 2-for-2 with 2 singles and 2 runs scored in an, 8-0, win against Slocomb.
- Brantley's Alex Grimes struck out 9 batters in an, 11-1, win against McKenzie. In her turns at bat, she had 2 hits, with a double and 2 RBIs. She scored twice.
- Opp's Jaidyn Ivey knocked in a career-high 5 RBIs, hitting 3-for-3 with a single, a double and a triple, while scoring twice, in a, 15-0, win against Straughn.
- Montgomery Catholic's Kate Johnson scored and assisted twice in the 5-3 loss to Smiths Station.
- Montgomery Catholic's Anna Russo scored four of the team's 8 goals in an, 8-0, shutout win against Tallassee. It was Russo's third hat trick of the season.
