Walnut Hills names former UC player as new boys basketball coach

Former UC Bearcats basketball star Cashmere Wright, who led Clark Montessori to the OHSAA DV regional final in 2025, is the new Walnut Hills boys basketball coach.

Walnut Hills High School has named former University of Cincinnati men’s basketball player Cashmere Wright as its boys basketball coach.

Wright moves over from Clark Montessori, a fellow school in the Cincinnati Public Schools district, where he was the head coach for four seasons. Wright led the team to a 17-9 record and its first regional final in team history, losing to rival Summit Country Day in the Division V regional finals.

Wright, a former UC standout, was a four-year starter who graduated as the program’s all-time steals leader and helped to lead the Bearcats to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances.

Wright replaces Stu Holt, who was 25-44 in three seasons at Walnut Hills, including 9-14 with a 7-9 record in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference this past season.

Before that, Walnut last won the ECC championship in 2021-22 with a 23-3 overall record. Walnut has won at least a share of the ECC title six times since joining the league in 2012.

Interested applicants for the open Clark Montessori position can send resumes to athletic director Derek Williams at willder@cpsboe.k12.oh.us.
