Washington Commanders' fortunes changed drastically in only four days
Wow! What a difference four days made for the Washington Commanders!
Sunday, Washington was coming off a miserable defensive performance (a loss at Atlanta) and was getting ready to take the field against the Chargers in Los Angeles. The Commanders were 2-2 and started off miserably against the Chargers, falling behind 10-0 as the Chargers drove again into Washington territory, with little resistance from the Commanders' defense.
Meanwhile, the Eagles took their home field on Sunday, at 4-0, to take on the visiting Broncos. The Eagles were again dominant, leading 17-3 late in the third quarter. Suddenly, everything changed. From that point forward, the Eagles went three-and-out, three-and-out, and three-and-out. Meanwhile, the Eagles' defense suddenly couldn't stop the Broncos, who traveled 64 yards for a touchdown, then 72 yards for another touchdown, and finally 50 yards for a field goal, resulting in a 21-17 Broncos victory.
Back in Los Angeles, Washington safety Quan Martin forced a fumble, and the Commanders' offense was resurrected. Washington went on to score 27 unanswered points, defeating the Chargers 27-10, and raised its record to 3-2.
On Thursday Night, the Eagles traveled to the New York Giants and allowed 172 rushing yards, ultimately losing to their NFC East rival, 34-17. Wow, Eagles fans were 4-0, two games up on Washington, at 1 pm on Sunday. By 11 pm on Thursday, they were 4-2, a half-game ahead of the Commanders.
The NFL really is a week-to-week league. The NFC East is up for grabs again. After missing consecutive weeks, Jayden Daniels is back healthy again. The Commanders' chance to win the NFC East is suddenly looking so much better than it was just four days ago.
