Weather postpones Thursday's events, cancels Friday's A.R.M.
Rainy weather ground prep sports to a halt Thursday and had already a large effect on Friday’s action: The A.R.M. Invitational track meet in Whitefish is canceled.
The A.R.M. has been a draw for many area teams; a dozen competed last year, when the meet was on April 26. It switched spots on the calendar with the Bigfork Invitational this season because of planned improvements to the Whitefish athletic facilities.
Construction crews are expected to begin work Monday on a new $6.1 million athletic complex on the Whitefish High School campus. In addition to a new track, the project includes a football field with a 1,500-seat grandstand.
Whitefish boys track coach Willie Roche noted the oval had problems with standing water Thursday, with more moisture expected. A muddy infield and slick take off boards added to the issues.
Back to Thursday, where a light schedule of baseball and softball games were postponed.
Glacier’s softball squad was supposed to play in Butte; that game was moved to Tuesday. Missoula Big Sky’s baseball game against Glacier set for Griffin Field was postponed.
Ronan was supposed to host Stevensville in softball as well as a track and field meet; those were washed out.
Bigfork baseball was set to travel to Eureka; that didn’t happen, nor did Polson’s doubleheader at Browning.
Many Friday events are still planned, including Glacier’s dual track and field meet with Helena Capital, Flathead’s home baseball game with Butte (at ABS Field) and Whitefish’s baseball game at Bigfork.
Flathead’s Friday softball game in Butte is now set for Monday.
