Week 7 power rankings: Consensus says Saints are a bottom-five team

What do the latest NFL power rankings say about the New Orleans Saints going into Week 7? It's tough to rank a team with a 1-5 record too highly, but for the most part, those taking stock of the league are recognizing the growth the Saints have shown week over week. Sure, they're still ranking New Orleans among the worst five teams in the NFL. Winning once in six weeks kind of demands that. But this is a young team with a first-year coach that's kept most of their losses within a single score. You can see the vision Kellen Moore has for his squad.

Here's a quick look at what this week's power rankings put the Saints:

USA Today: No. 28

While the results aren't there – barely – in the win column, second-year QB Spencer Rattler is giving an awfully good account of himself.

The Athletic: No. 28

The window may be closing for one of fantasy football’s most consistent contributors of the last nine years. Kamara had an ADP of 40 this year, but he’s 102nd in scoring after six weeks (11.60). He led the Saints in rushing Sunday, but that only amounted to 31 yards, and he has only one touchdown this season.

Bleacher Report: No. 28

So, about the momentum that the Saints built after winning their first game of 2025 in Week 5 against the New York Giants. Well, that's gone.

On some level, it can be argued that first-year head coach Kellen Moore deserves a fair amount of credit. Yes, the Saints are a one-win team. But with the exception of a Week 3 meltdown in Seattle, New Orleans has been in every game this season.

That's saying something, because the Saints just don't have the talent to hang with good teams this season. The offense was held under 20 points for the fourth time in six games. The defense can only do so much when the offense can't sustain drives.

It's going to be a long season in the Big Easy. But that might be the worst thing in the long run.

This is a team that has needed a ground-up rebuild for years.

ESPN: No. 28

Tight end Taysom Hill gave the Saints a boost by scoring from the 1-yard line against the Patriots, but the past two weeks have been a collection of field goals by New Orleans, which attempted 10 (making eight) versus just two touchdowns. Failing to get in the end zone will continue to lose the Saints games, and drives have stalled for a variety of reasons: turnovers, penalties and sacks being some of them.

Yahoo Sports: No. 29

The Saints are much better than the three teams ranked behind them, though that says more about the Jets, Titans and Dolphins. At least the Saints compete most weeks. They’re not an easy out for anyone, which isn’t a bad sign for head coach Kellen Moore.

FOX Sports: No. 30

Well, the Saints couldn’t follow up their big win over the Giants with another win, but at least they stayed competitive against a better Patriots team.

CBS Sports: No. 30

Playing teams close might be what they have to play for this season. Spencer Rattler is improving at quarterback.

Sports Illustrated: No. 28

The Saints feel like a stock you should be buying. Outside of one game, there have been no blowouts, few egregious coaching errors, developing younger players, non-embarrassing quarterback play. If Kellen Moore can pull this and the No. 1 pick off somehow, I’d treat that as an unbelievable coup.

The Sporting News: No. 30

The Saints keep marching to a potential date with Arch Manning in the 2026 draft, which Spencer Rattler is trying to prevent with steady improved play under Kellen Moore. But their defense can't help much anymore.
