What does 'We are all Patriots' mean?
If you looked closely enough, you might have noticed some Patriots players or coaches wearing "We are all Patriots" merchandise today in Denver. But what does that phrase mean?
It dates back to the 2001 season, shortly after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. It was Patriots owner Robert Kraft who used the phrase as a rallying cry to unite fans, and in a way, all Americans, after the attacks. It became very prominent when New England won its first Super Bowl, beating the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI.
Since then the phrase has been featured on Patriots merchandise and there's even a "We are all Patriots Stage" at the Patriots Hall of Fame, which is described as "a unique immersive experience that brings guests 'face-to-face' with players, coaches and other contributors who have helped define the Patriot Way."
If the Patriots prevail in today's AFC Championship and head to Super Bowl LX, you can be sure you'll hear.. and see that phrase quite a bit over the next couple weeks.
