Where did CBS rank CJ Carr in its top-10 returning QB’s of 2026
There have been plenty of top lists that have been released since Notre Dame football’s season concluded and another was dropped on Wednesday afternoon.
Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports ranked the top-10 returning quarterbacks in college football, and he has CJ Carr at the top of his list. The Irish second-year starter had a monster redshirt freshman season, passing for 2,741-yards with 24 touchdowns and just six interceptions, also rushing for three scores. Not only that, he completed 66.6% of his 293 attempts, making it all that more impressive.
Add that up, along with a season of experience under his belt, and Carr should be on everyone top returning quarterback list. Looking at the rest of who Fornelli believes will drive the position, Arch Manning of Texas once again makes an appearance, checking in at No. 3. I’m still not sold on him, as he struggled playing against some of his top opponents.
For comparisons sake, both Carr and Manning played Texas A&M this past season, with Notre Dame quarterback throwing for 293-yards with a touchdown and pick, while the Longhorns saw their second-year player pass for 179-yards and a touchdown. Carr had the better game, and while the result wasn’t what the Irish wanted, he played very well.
I’m fine with Oregon’s Dante Moore being No. 2, especially considering he flirted with leaving early for the NFL and would have been one of the top quarterbacks on team’s boards. The rest of the list comprises of some solid players, but clearly none of them are above Carr in Fornelli’s eyes.
No way I live to regret this list. Not happening. pic.twitter.com/0rkA2XCzDw— Tom Fornelli (@TomFornelli) February 25, 2026
