Where did the Oklahoma Sooners land in updated AP Top 25?

The Oklahoma Sooners started the season 1-0 with their 35-3 win over Illinois State on Saturday evening. The Sooners came in at No. 24 in the US LBM Coaches Poll released on Tuesday. Oklahoma didn't have any movement in the latest iteration of the AP Poll, staying at No. 18 in the nation.

Though they didn't move up, they did come in three spots ahead of Alabama, which fell 13 spots from No. 8 after their upset loss to Florida State. The Sooners are the sixth-highest rated team in the SEC.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are the new No. 1 team in the nation after knocking off the previous No. 1 team, Texas, 14-7 in Columbus. Penn State at No. 2, watching the defending national champs jump them for the top spot. The LSU Tigers tied for the biggest climb in the poll, moving up six spots to No. 3. Georgia at No. 4 and Miami at No. 5 round out the top 5.

After losing to Ohio State, Texas dropped six spots to No. 7 in the nation. South Carolina is the only other team inside the top 10, coming in at No. 10. Florida is the only other SEC team ranked ahead of the Sooners, coming at No. 13.

Oklahoma's opponent this week in Norman, the Michigan Wolverines, dropped one spot in the poll after their 34-17 win over New Mexico. This week's matchup between OU and Michigan features a pair of top 20 teams in primetime and will play host to ESPN's "College GameDay."

It's a big opportunity for Brent Venables and the Sooners to kick start the 2025 season in earnest against a quality opponent. If they get a win, the Sooners will have a shot to be 4-0 heading into their first SEC game of the season against the Auburn Tigers.

But first the Sooners must take care of business with the eyes of the college football world watching this weekend.
