Where do the Eagles land in a ranking of all 32 rosters ahead of the draft
The Eagles underwent an overhaul this offseason, as a mass exodus of free agents left the defense with holes, but 12 new additions—7 on defense—could have this team back in the Super Bowl.
The Athletic recently ranked all 32 NFL rosters from best to worst, and the Super Bowl champions maintained the top spot despite a mass exodus of players.
They may have lost some pieces this offseason, most notably along the defensive line, but they’ve done an incredible job in recent years of acquiring talent through the draft to backfill those pieces, all while being strategic with the salary cap to maximize their spending.
So, just how good is this roster? Of the 11 position groups, the Eagles rank inside the top 10 in eight of them. The Detroit Lions are the only other team that can boast that type of widespread talent. The Eagles are a little thin at edge rusher, but I expect them to address that in the draft. And if they do, there really isn’t a weak point on this roster.
During the first wave of free agency, Philadelphia saw Josh Sweat (Cardinals), Milton Williams (Patriots), Kenneth Gainwell (Steelers), Mekhi Becton (Chargers), Isaiah Rodgers (Vikings), Fred Johnson (Jaguars), Parris Campbell (Cowboys), Darius Slay (Steelers) and Oren Burks (Bengals) all depart.
Still, they rebounded to make several key signings, including A.J. Dillon (RB), Joshua Uche (LB), Adoree' Jackson (CB), Charley Hughlett (LS), Patrick Johnson (LB), Avery Williams (KR/PR), Matt Pryor (OL) Kylen Granson (TE), and Azeez Ojulari (OLB) to name a few.
Philadelphia will have eight picks in next week's draft and plenty of opportunities to add depth and versatility to the roster.
