Which Oklahoma high school baseball players were selected in first round of MLB Draft?

For the first time in 14 years, multiple baseball players from Oklahoma high schools are expected to be picked first in the MLB Draft.

It was in 2011 when Owasso's Dylan Bundy and Broken Arrow's Archie Bradley were selected in the opening round of the draft. Deer Creek's Michael Fulmer was picked in a supplemental round as well.

Up this year: Stillwater’s Ethan Holliday and Fort Cobb-Broxton’s Eli Willits.

Holliday and Willits both have strong family connections to the big leagues. Their names will likely be called within the first 10 picks Sunday night in Atlanta. It’s possible one could be the No. 1 overall pick.

They would be the fourth and fifth players in the last five first rounds directly picked from an Oklahoma high school.

And the trend is expected to continue next year.

Edmond Santa Fe pitcher Savion Sims is projected as a possible No. 1 overall pick.

“It’s pretty cool,” former All-Star and World Series winner Matt Holliday said. “I think Oklahoma’s kind of a slept-on state with pro athletes and guys that are doing well in pro sports.”
