Who do Commanders land in a new 3-round post-free agency mock draft?
How did one week of NFL free agency affect the first 100 picks of April's 2026 NFL Draft?
That was the question CBS Sports' Josh Edwards asked as he compiled his new mock draft. Washington Commanders fans will notice a couple of players who excelled at the NFL Scouting Combine have elevated themselves in Edwards' latest mock draft.
For now, we will look at the top ten and what Edwards had to say regarding the Commanders selecting at the No. 7 position.
- 1: Las Vegas Raiders: Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza
- 2: New York Jets: Ohio State LB/EDGE Arvell Reese
- 3. Arizona Cardinals: Texas Tech EDGE David Bailey
- 4. Tennessee Titans: Ohio State LB Sonny Styles
- 5. New York Giants: Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love
- 6. Cleveland Browns: Georgia OT Monroe Freeling
- 7. Washington Commanders: Miami EDGE Rueben Bain Jr.

What did Edwards have to say more specifically concerning the Commanders' selection at No. 7?
The Titans and Commanders picks are closely linked. If Sonny Styles had been available with Rueben Bain Jr. off the board, he would've been the choice. Given the opposite played out in this scenario, Washington adds Bain to a group that includes Dorance Armstrong, Odafe Oweh and K'Lavon Chaisson. Jeremiyah Love would've been a consideration for this team as well.
Bain is his second-highest ranking prospect at the edge rusher position.
This was a three-round mock draft, but Washington does not have a pick in the second round due to the Laremy Tunsil trade. With the No. 71 overall pick in the third round, Edwards has the Commanders selecting Indiana wide receiver Elijah Surratt.
