Who was Jacksonville Jaguars 'biggest surprise' player during the offseason?

During OTAs and minicamp, which Jacksonville Jaguars player surprised the most?

Over at ESPN, each reporter made that selection for their respective team. When it came to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Michael DiRocco chose cornerback Montaric Brown.

"Brown has worked with the starters, and he consistently made plays throughout the offseason, including a pair of end-zone pass breakups in red zone drills in minicamp," wrote DiRocco. "He has the advantage heading into camp."

Under new defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile, we are going to see a heavy dose of zone coverage and a vision-based approach on the back end, which means all eyes on the quarterback, which hopefully leads to increased ball production.

Brown has acclimated quite well to this zone prominent scheme, routinely making plays on the ball in practices, as DiRocco noted.

"That's who he's been every day that I've been here," Anthony Campanile said of Brown's ball production. "And I can only go by what I see every day that I'm out here, he competes. He loves to compete.

"Same thing like Tyson, whether it's on the line of scrimmage, he's not afraid to challenge people. To challenge people at the top of the route and play with technique, but whatever he's gotta do to strain and make the play, he's been doing that, which is awesome. That's what we've been preaching and he's doing that every day."

The starting spot opposite of Tyson Campbell is available. Competing with Brown for that playing time will be Travis Hunter and Jarrian Jones. Although what Hunter's workload on defense will look like is still not known, and as DiRocco mentions, Jones is navigating the learning curve of being in a zone-heavy defense. Throughout his career up to this point, he has played man coverage.
