Who will the Commanders open the 2025 season against?
With the NFL releasing a few games on Monday, what do we know about the Washington Commanders' 2025 schedule?
Week 1 vs. Giants?
The Commanders will not open against division rivals Philadelphia or Dallas. Seeing the Cowboys and Eagles face off in Week 1, might the NFL have the Commanders kick off 2025 against the New York Giants?
Christmas for Commanders?
Being scheduled to play the Eagles at Northwest Stadium on Saturday, December 20, don't be surprised if the NFL turns around and schedules the Commanders or Eagles for a Christmas Day game. The NFL has determined there will be three games on Christmas Day.
If Washington plays on Christmas, it will not be against the Chiefs or Broncos
The Commanders, scheduled to play both the Broncos and Chiefs, will not play either on Christmas Day. The NFL announced that the Chiefs and Broncos will play each other on Christmas Day.
No Black Friday game against Eagles or Bears
The Commanders are to play the Eagles for the first time in Philadelphia and the Bears at Northwest Stadium. Neither of those games will be played on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. The NFL announced that the Eagles and Bears will play on that Friday.
NFC East schedule
Of course, the Commanders will still play six NFC East divisional games: three on the road against the Eagles, Giants, and Cowboys and three at home against those same teams.
4 games vs. the rugged NFC North
Last year, the Commanders played the NFC South division (Falcons, Bucs, Saints, Panthers). In this 2025 season, they will square off against a much tougher NFC North (Packers, Vikings, Lions, Bears).
Commanders will face the tough AFC West
The AFC division on the Commanders' 2025 regular season schedule will be the AFC West. The Commanders will travel to the Chiefs and Chargers, while also hosting the Broncos and Raiders.
The 17th game
The final and 17th opponent for 2025 will come from the AFC. The NFL rotates this every season. Last year, the Commanders' 17th opponent came from the NFC, so this year, it is the Miami Dolphins from the AFC. The Dolphins have a home game scheduled for Madrid. This past weekend, a story leaked out suggesting the Commanders will be the Dolphins' opponent in that game in Madrid. The NFL has yet to officially announce the game.
Look for the Commanders to be scheduled to play several prime-time games in 2025. The Commanders finished 12-5 last year. In addition, they won two playoff games on the road against Tampa Bay and Detroit before being soundly beaten by the Eagles in Philadelphia for the NFC Championship Game.
