Will Neemias Queta earn the starting role for the Boston Celtics
Neemias Queta's playing time has been limited during the Boston Celtics' opening three preseason games. The 7-foot rim-runner sat out of the opening contest against the Memphis Grizzlies before starting against the Toronto Raptors and having a limited bench role against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Queta was widely expected to step into the vacant big man position on Joe Mazzulla's roster, but at present, there's no guarantee that spot will be his come opening night.
Mazzulla could be resting Queta. He spent part of his summer with the Portuguese National Team at the FIBA EuroBasket competition. However, his time in the tournament shouldn't have led to such a limited role in Boston's preseason preparations. At present, it looks like he's behind Luka Garza, Xavier Tillman and Chris Boucher in the rotation.
In a recent interview with Marc D'Amico, via the Celtics' official YouTube channel, Queta emphasized his willingness to put in the work and fight for his spot in Mazzulla's rotation. And, judging by the first three preseason games, that appears to be the right mentality. After all, Boston's lack of talent at the center position has left the door open for someone to claim a starting role. Whether that will be Queta will remain to be seen.
