WWE Legend Randy Orton Sends Message to NBA Star Anthony Edwards

During WWE's recent boom period, with Triple H as the head of creative, the company has put a clear emphasis on reclaiming its lost mainstream relevance. Wrestling's always had detractors, but there have been plenty of eras where the business was oozing with "cool" factor. It will take about 18 more ATV accidents before Stone Cold Steve Austin loses his aura.

A John Cena heel turn/retirement tour paired with a loaded roster has brought the magic back, making every event a must-watch affair. Randy Orton is one of the few performers who never lost his appeal and is still generating nuclear crowd reactions. He even took time before his Backlash main event this Saturday to endorse a rising NBA superstar.

Orton took to X to post a caricature of himself passing a "Legend Killer" chain to Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards. Orton developed that moniker in 2003, taking out various WWE greats of the past to help establish his own legacy (pun fully intended) before ultimately becoming the youngest world champion in promotion history.

The parallel with Edwards is strong, who recently sent the Los Angeles Lakers, led by icon LeBron James, packing from the playoffs. "Ant-Man" was the best player in the series, and it definitely felt like a passing of the torch between generations.

Could this stamp of approval from Orton be enough to help propel Edwards to another Western Conference Finals berth? It's too early to say, but hopefully, Edwards could join the likes of Trae Young and Tyrese Haliburton and be featured in WWE programming soon. Could you imagine the 23-year-old cutting a promo?
