Yankees trade idea involves Paul Goldschmidt, Trent Grisham with an AL Central solution

Yankees trade idea involves Paul Goldschmidt, Trent Grisham with an AL Central solution

The New York Yankees' lineup could use a jolt.

They've slowed down a bunch since the season began, with recent cold stretches for Trent Grisham and Paul Goldschmidt standing out.

They could use an injection of life. That's where Willi Castro comes in.

The Minnesota Twins' utility man has a .781 OPS this season, and ESPN's David Schoenfield thinks he's meant to be a Yankee.

"OK, this wouldn't be the most dramatic of moves for the Yankees, and they could certainly be in the mix for Eugenio Suarez. (Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been playing third of late but would slide over to second.)," Schoenfield writes. "They don't really have any glaring holes, at least if Marcus Stroman can plug the back of the rotation, but their offense has been gradually sliding: .829 OPS in April, .792 in May, .719 in June. Castro's versatility is key: He could play third or he could play the outfield. With Trent Grisham and Paul Goldschmidt tailing off from their hot starts, Castro and Cody Bellinger would give manager Aaron Boone all kinds of lineup flexibility if those two continue to struggle."

Castro has a lot going for him from a team-building perspective.

Not only is he having a strong season at the plate; he's also a switch-hitter. And he can play essentially any position on the diamond.

The Yankees could use that flexibility and versatility, so they should reach out about Castro sooner rather than later.
