2027 4-star DL commits to Texas A&M over USC, Nebraska

Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class is on its way to finishing as the No. 1-ranked class in the cycle, as the momentum continued on Saturday afternoon after four-star defensive lineman Myels Smith out of Inglewood, California, announced his commitment to Texas A&M after visiting College Station during the Aggies' historic comeback win over South Carolina.

Under head coach Mike Elko and defensive line coaches Tony Jerod-Eddie and Sean Spencer, the Aggies have dominated in the trenches over the past two seasons, racking up 41 sacks during the 2025 regular season, led by senior edge Cashius Howell's SEC-leading 11.5 sacks and 41 pressures. Smith, who is one of the more versatile defenders in the cycle, looks like a perfect fit as a future 3-tech in Elko's scheme.

After recording an impressive 65 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and 20 tackles for loss, Smith's 6'3", nearly 300-pound frame pairs well with his first-step quickness of the snap, overwhelming offensive linemen on every down. Again, Smith is an athlete with a capital A, brings a violent first step on every snap, and is already a proven run stopper with pass rush potential.

With Smith's commitment, Texas A&M remains the No. 1-ranked 2027 class in 247Sports' rankings and isn't slowing down heading into the offseason. When it comes to recruiting under-the-radar defensive linemen with immense potential, Texas A&M remains the premier destination in college football.

According to 247Sports, Smith is currently positioned as the 33rd-ranked defensive lineman and the 26th-ranked prospect in California.
