A closer look at Commanders' Odafe Oweh's four-year contract

The Washington Commanders brought in several players during free agency this year, and we are slowly beginning to learn the contract details for each new addition. Newly signed lienbacker Odafe Oweh is the latest player to have his contract details made public.

From Over The Cap: "Odafe Oweh signed a four-year, $96 million contract with the Commanders. $68 million is guaranteed, of which $50.6 million is fully guaranteed at signing. Oweh received a $26 million signing bonus and his 2026 and 2027 salaries are fully guaranteed. There are annual per-game bonuses in the contract. There is one void year for salary cap purposes."

Oweh is a six-year veteran and former first-round draft pick. He played five seasons with the Baltimore Ravens before joining the Los Angeles Chargers for one season. He began his career as a solid rotational piece before assuming a larger role in each of the last two seasons, recording 10 and 7.5 sacks, respectively.

The price tag on Oweh isn't as important as the contract structure. Oweh is worth the money the Commanders will pay him, and the contract structure helps the Commanders conserve cap space. It's a win-win for both sides, and the Commanders have a solid defensive piece in place for the next four years.

Oweh also filled Washington's biggest offseason need.
