Aaron Boone was justifiably furious after the umpires ruled foul ball on a clear Aaron Judge home run
The Rays' stadium situation — being forced to play at Steinbrenner Field amid damage to Tropicana Field — has presented MLB with plenty of challenges. And after Sunday, we can add fair-foul calls to that list.
It shouldn't have been complicated, though.
With Aaron Judge hitting in the eighth inning, the Yankees star destroyed a 3-2 changeup down the left-field line. It looked like a home run in real time, but the shorter foul pole at Steinbrenner Field seemingly threw off third base umpire Scott Barry.
He ruled that Judge's moonshot was a foul ball, and replay would uphold that ruling. Something was clearly wrong with all of that.

One of the replay angles showed that the ball was fair — pretty definitively. Yet, the replay center went with the call on the field.

Later in the at-bat, Judge was punched out on a borderline strike, and Aaron Boone had seen enough. He argued with both Barry and home plate umpire Adam Beck. Boone was ejected, but honestly, he had every reason to be furious with the umpires.

He was justified to have words with Barry about that one. That was a call that never should be missed.
