Aaron Rodgers does not make his future plans clear for 2026
During an anticipated appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers finally revealed his plans for the 2026 season.
There has been speculation about what Rodgers' plans were since the season ended. Many thought that Rodgers was leaning toward retirement, especially when the team let go of Mike Tomlin.
But when the Steelers decided to hire Rodgers' former Green Bay head coach, Mike McCarthy, some thought it would change his mind. It might have, Rodgers says he’s still staying fit, which sounds like a good sign for the Steelers.
“I’ve been working out, and I’m staying fit, you know it’s harder when you get older, he said. I can’t take as much time off as I used to when I was younger.”
Rodgers didn’t say he was staying fit for a return, but he did say something surprising. He said he wants to stay in shape for his new wife.
He also mentioned that he had a blast this past season playing with the Steelers and praised new head coach Mike McCarthy.
“Mike McCarthy is one of the great guys in the league, and he really cares about the players,” he said. “He’s an exceptional human being with a big heart.”
Despite all the kind words, Rodgers says he has not yet decided about his future. That shouldn’t be a surprise because Rodgers normally takes his time making important decisions like this.
Rodgers did say he talked to his head coach and general manager, but he's not ready to announce anything, at least not today.
"There won't be any big decision made today," he said.
