Alexandra Eala reaches career-best ranking as Emma Raducanu also climbs sharply
Alexandra Eala is in line for another boost after her performance at the Abu Dhabi Open.
Her popularity was clear in Abu Dhabi, where plenty of supporters turned up just to watch her play.
Eala’s tennis seems to be benefiting from this, with her enjoying a breakthrough season in 2025.
She hit a ranking milestone after the Australian Open and has now improved on that again by making it to the quarterfinals in Abu Dhabi.
Alexandra Eala reaches new career-best ranking following the Abu Dhabi Open
Although she achieved a career-best ranking after the Australian Open, it is worth noting that Eala exited in the first round of the tournament.
She has since made back-to-back quarterfinal appearances, first at her home WTA 125 event in Manila and then at the WTA 500 tournament in Abu Dhabi.
That run in Abu Dhabi almost did not happen. Eala was down 4-0 and facing match point in the final set against Aliaksandra Sasnovich before pulling off a remarkable comeback.
Following that win, she moved up five spots in the rankings to reach world number 40, marking another milestone.
Aiming to continue her progress towards that goal, Eala is set to debut at the Qatar Open. Her first-round match will be against the promising Czech teenager, Tereza Valentova.
The 20-year-old star is now just eight places shy of being seeded at Grand Slams and some of the larger WTA 1000 events.
She is not the only player making moves this week. The biggest jump belongs to Sara Bejlek, who claimed her first WTA title by defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova and has soared 63 places to world number 38.
Emma Raducanu climbs back into top 25 after Cluj-Napoca final
While she has not set a new career-best ranking, it has still been an encouraging week for Emma Raducanu.
The Briton reached her first final since winning the US Open, making it through to the title match at the WTA 250 event in Cluj-Napoca.
This time though, she fell short of the trophy, losing out to Sorana Cirstea in straight sets.
Even without the title, Raducanu’s run has seen her climb five spots in the rankings. She now sits at world number 24, her highest position since August 2022.
Next up for Raducanu is a first-round match against Camila Osorio at the Qatar Open, where she will look to continue her strong form.
Similar to Eala, the 23-year-old Briton will need to reduce the pressure of defending a large number of ranking points at the upcoming Miami Open before the tournament takes place next month.
