Angels Fans Upset With Mike Trout Announcement After Red Sox Game

Angels Fans Upset With Mike Trout Announcement After Red Sox Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

After a month-long absence due to a bone bruise in his left knee, Mike Trout made a triumphant return to the Los Angeles Angels' lineup on May 30. The 33-year-old superstar had been sidelined since April 30, but his comeback as the designated hitter against the Cleveland Guardians signaled a significant boost for the team.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Major League Baseball history, Trout's accolades are a testament to his exceptional talent. Over his 15-season career, all with the Angels, he has amassed three American League MVP awards, 11 All-Star selections, and nine Silver Slugger awards.

Trout's tenure with the Angels has been marked by numerous franchise records and memorable moments. Since his rise to superstardom as the 2012 AL Rookie of the Year, Trout has been slotted somewhere near the top of LA's order whenever healthy.

That is why it was surprising when Angels manager Ron Washington decided to bat him fifth in the series opener against Cleveland, and sixth the next game. Trout ended up going 5-for-10 against the Guardians, and followed that with three more hits and a home run against the Boston Red Sox on Monday.

Following the game, Washington announced Trout will remain in the fifth spot.

Angels fans were not happy with this announcement, as many feel the team needs Trout's production near the top of the order.

"Not rational but what is with the Angels right now," said one.

"Let wash cook, 5 spot gets the 5th most abs. Guy is a genius," one said sarcastically.

"He needs to be fired already," said another.

"He’s a odd man," one said of the Angels manager.

"wtf Wash," said another.

Trout's 15-year career with the Angels has been filled with highlights that underscore his impact on the game. It was a meteoric rise to superstardom for the future Hall of Famer, which is why until last weekend, he had not hit below third in the order since 2011 (h/t Bill Shaikin of the LA Times).

While it may not be in the spot fans want, Trout's return to the lineup is great news for the Angels as they hope to climb the AL West standings. Currently holding a 27-32 record, the team looks to leverage Trout's presence to turn their season around.
