Auburn baseball vs. Coastal Carolina: Score prediction for super regional Game 2

AUBURN — The comeback Auburn baseball managed in the first game of its super regional against Coastal Carolina was impressive. It's also easy to see why the Chanticleers won in spite of it, eventually pulling through for a 7-6 victory in 10 innings.

Coming into Friday, Coastal Carolina had lost just four games when leading. It was undefeated, with 40 victories, when it led after six innings, both of which were the case in game one.

Somehow, the Tigers managed muster a five-run comeback in the weather-delayed affair, but with two chances to walk it off, they hit into the same play. In the ninth and 10th innings, Coastal Carolina second baseman Blake Barthol caught line outs and touched second for inning-ending plays.

Now, the Tigers need to win out if they want to keep their season alive and return to the Men's College World Series. Anything less ends their season.

The Tigers fired their best bullet on the mound Friday in Sam Dutton, who struggled to quell the Chanticleers' bats through 3⅔ innings. Now, they'll have to return to arms who have flashed in starts, but haven't proven consistent.

It's the time of year where anything can happen, and that includes Auburn finding a pitcher capable of posting comeback-mounting effort with the season on the line. But with what Coastal Carolina did to Auburn's best, it's hard not to see the Chanticleers leaving Plainsman Park tomorrow with their ticket punched to Omaha.

Coastal Carolina 7, Auburn 4
