Biggest studs from Bears' miraculous comeback win vs. Packers
The Chicago Bears mounted an improbable comeback win over the Green Bay Packers in overtime, improving to 11-4 and extending their lead in the NFC North to 1.5 games.
Chicago had no business winning this game after their rough showing in the first three quarters. But the cardiac Bears found a way to overcome a 13-3 deficit to force overtime. Chicago's offense mounted three straight scoring drives in the fourth quarter -- two field goals and a touchdown -- including quarterback Caleb Williams' game-tying touchdown to rookie wide receiver Jahdae Walker to force overtime. From there, the defense got a huge stop on fourth-and-1 near midfield and Williams hit wide receiver DJ Moore for the walk-off touchdown.
It was the Bears' most improbable win of the season -- which is certainly saying something -- and featured some standout performances that contributed to their 11th victory of the season. Here are our biggest studs who shined the brightest when it mattered most.
QB Caleb Williams
It wasn't the prettiest game for quarterback Caleb Williams, but once again, he turned it on when the Bears needed him most and was instrumental in their miraculous comeback win. Williams orchestrated three fourth-quarter scoring drives, as well as the game-winning drive in overtime. That included touchdowns to wide receiver Jahdae Walker to force overtime and DJ Moore for the walk-off win. When all was said and done, Williams completed 19-of-34 passes for 250 yards with two touchdowns and no turnovers for a 98.9 passer rating. But his late-game heroics made him one of the biggest studs in this game.
WR DJ Moore
While DJ Moore hasn't had the season he might've liked from an individual statistical standpoint, he's experiencing a winning season for the first time in his NFL career. And he stepped up in the franchise's biggest game in recent history with Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III sidelined with injuries. Moore battled throughout the game, including taking a late hit by Keisean Nixon early on and returning, leading the Bears in receiving with five receptions for 97 yards and the game-winning 46-yard touchdown from Caleb Williams in overtime.
WR Jahdae Walker
With the Bears down two of their top receivers in Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III, they turned to undrafted rookie Jahdae Walker in the passing game -- and he delivered. Walker only had two catches for 21 yards (on a day where there were just 19 completions) but he came up clutch with the game-tying 6-yard touchdown from Caleb Williams to force overtime. Ben Johnson sang Walker's praises after the game, and it was another example of the depth Chicago has on this roster at all positions.
K Cairo Santos
While Cairo Santos has come under plenty of criticism this season for his lack of leg strength, he's brought stability to the kicker position, and he comes up clutch when Chicago needs him. Santos played a huge role in this win, as he was essentially the offense until the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Santos connected on all three of his field goals, including drilling a 51-yarder with the wind whipping at Soldier Field. He also connected on his lone extra point. Had Caleb Williams not hit DJ Moore for the game-winning touchdown, Santos likely would've had a chance to win the game -- and he probably would've done it.
CB Josh Blackwell
Special teams played a huge role in this win for the Bears. Outside of kicker Cairo Santos, there was no bigger hero on special teams than cornerback Josh Blackwell, who recovered the improbable onside kick that went through the hands of Romeo Doubs. That gave Chicago the ball with 1:56 left, and they went on an eight-play, 53-yard scoring drive that resulted in a Caleb Williams to Jahdae Walker touchdown to force overtime. The rest, as they say, is history. Blackwell has been a core special teams contributor for the Bears, and this was just another example.
LB T.J. Edwards
The Bears reunited T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds, who have both been injured at times throughout the season, and it made a huge difference. Edwards had a massive game for Chicago, leading the team with 10 tackles, 0.5 sack and one QB hit. He had some big stops in the game, including getting a stop on quarterback Malik Willis in overtime on third-and-1. One play later, the Packers turned it over on downs and Chicago scored the game-winner shortly after.
