Broncos' 1st-round draft pick changes number (but RJ Harvey hasn't yet)

The jersey number changes have started for Denver Broncos players, but one big (potential) change is still pending.

First, one change that has happened: cornerback Jahdae Barron, the team's first-round draft pick out of Texas, has switched from No. 12 to No. 23. His new number became available after the team waived running back Audric Estime last week. Barron hinted this spring that he was not locked in on No. 12.

"It’s just for right now, but I’m enjoying it," Barron said when asked about his number in May. "If it’s 12, it’s 12, and I’ll wear it with a lot of pride.”

Meanwhile, running back RJ Harvey, the team's second-round draft pick out of UCF, is still wearing No. 37. Fans in Denver have been hoping to see the running back switch to a single-digit number after he hinted about a potential switch this spring.

Harvey specifically mentioned No. 5 in May, but that number is currently worn by wide receiver Trent Sherfield. Some fans (and Meghan Payton) have suggested No. 4, but that number is currently held by practice squad quarterback Sam Ehlinger.

So if Harvey wants to switch to a single-digit number, he might have to strike a deal with one of his teammates. Stay tuned. The Broncos still have three more days of practice ahead of Sunday's season opener against the Tennessee Titans. Barron and Harvey are set to make their NFL debuts against Tennessee. Barron will be wearing No. 12. For now, Harvey still has No. 37.
