GLENDALE – Arizona Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort had his first opportunity to speak at the 2026 NFL Draft Combine and was asked plenty of times about the QB controversy. While many outlets and reporters have made it clear that the franchise will be moving away from seven-year veteran Kyler Murray, Ossenfort wouldn’t give a definitive answer on the two-time Pro Bowler’s status.

The third-year Cardinals GM named Murray, Jacoby Brissett Kedon Slovis as options that the organization will elevate as the offseason progresses.

Ossenfort on assessing the QB competition:

When asked about the free agent quarterback Malik Willis, Ossenfort detailed the pair’s relationship. The 48-year-old was with the Tennessee Titans when the franchise drafted Willis in the 3rd round of the 2022 NFL draft. Ossenfort has paid attention to the 26-year-old’s production with the Green Bay Packers this past season and will take a look at him this offseason.

In 2025, Willis had two games where he threw over 10 pass attempts, in those instances he combined for 27-of-32 for 409 passing yards and two touchdowns. NFL.com ranked him as the No. 1 ranked free agent in this year’s class, as Arizona is one of the favorites to pursue him.

Experts have Willis receiving a massive contract in free agency, which might be a mistake for the Cardinals to give a quarterback with only six career starts in four seasons. Ossenfort likely wants to give Mike LaFleur, the head coach he handpicked, a promising player under center in his first year.

Ossenfort kept everything on the table for who will be the starting QB in 2026, but with a weak 2026 draft class and Brissett/Murray going 3-14 last year, free agency is a serious avenue for him to look at this offseason.
