Will it be a two-man race to the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge on Sunday? Matti Schmid and Ben Griffin have set the stage for just such a finish.

Germany's Schmid, vying to become the 15th international winner in 24 events on the PGA Tour in 2025, is tied with Ben Griffin, who is trying to become a two-time winner on Tour this season. Schmid is in pursuit of his first PGA Tour win. Griffin is looking to join Scottie Scheffler, Sepp Straka and Rory McIlroy ‒ who has three wins so far ‒ as multiple-time winners this season.

Schmid and Griffin went back and forth Saturday. At one point on the front nine, Schmid took a three-shot lead on the field but Griffin would chase him down and they were tied at 13 under through 15 holes.

On the 16th, Schmid nudged ahead with a birdie on the par-3 16th but he'd give it right back on the par-4 17th.

After 54 holes, the two were tied at 13 under and they'll play in the final group on Sunday.

How did Rickie Fowler play Saturday at the Charles Schwab Challenge?

The ever-popular Fowler, who posted a 64 on Friday, moved up four spots on the leaderboard Saturday.

He shot a 3-under 67 and is solo third at 9 under, four shots back. His only blemish came on the par-4 12th when he three-putted the green, leading to his lone bogey of the day, something he bemoaned afterwards.

"It's a tough one to swallow. You never want to have a three-putt. It wasn't like I was that far away either, but a lot of good stuff other than that this week on the greens," Fowler said. "Yeah, I feel like we have a few more to make tomorrow."

Of those near the top of the leaderboard, Fowler is one of the more experienced players.

"I'm looking forward to it. I mean, I haven't been far off for quite a while. I've seen glimpses here and there of some really good golf. Very comfortable around this place. I've been around here a lot and really enjoy playing at Colonial," he said. "So, yeah, looking forward to tomorrow. Everyone is very good, so experience does help, but we've got a couple of guys that are out there a little ways in front of me, and see if we can go chase them down."

What did Scottie Scheffler do Saturday at the Charles Schwab Challenge?

Scottie Scheffler, who's finished in the top three at Colonial the last three years, made the cut on the number Friday to extend his cuts made streak to 55, caught fire Saturday, shooting 6-under 64 to get to 7 under overall and inside the top 10. He's trying to become just the third golfer since 2008 to win three starts in a row.

Fresh off his third career major, he admitted he's taking a lighter schedule this week.

"I'm just out here battling. I had a good day today," he said. "The first two days definitely could have been a bit better, but we'll see how things shake out during the course of the afternoon and see what I can do tomorrow."

2025 Charles Schwab Challenge leaderboard, scores

Robert MacIntyre tied Scheffler and Lucas Glover for low round of the day at Colonial with a 6-under 64. MacIntyre (8 under) is tied for fourth alongside Nick Hardy and Akshay Bhatia.

Scheffler is tied with Andrew Novak and Kurt Kitayama for seventh. Glover, who climbed 52 spots on the leaderboard, is in an eight-way tie for 10th at 6 under.

There will be a new winner in 2025, as 2024 champ Davis Riley missed the cut.
