Chiefs' Kareem Hunt Details Benefit Of Training Camp: 'Definitely An Advantage'
Chiefs' Kareem Hunt Details Benefit Of Training Camp: 'Definitely An Advantage' originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
This time last offseason, Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt didn't have an NFL team and was awaiting a phone call to begin his 2024 season.
With no training camp, it was in Week 2 when the phone rang. Hunt signed with the Chiefs, became Andy Reid's starting running back, and the rest is history. Yeah, playing in the regular season with no preseason behind you is a tough gig, but Hunt made it work.
Now, having gotten his future sorted early this offseason, Hunt has been at OTAs, minicamp and now, training camp, and don't think he hasn't noticed the benefits.
"It's definitely an advantage, I get to be around guys that are pushing me," Hunt said. "Guys who are challenging me each and every day, instead of me trying to push myself, by myself working out, staying in shape, making sure I hold myself accountable."
With a running back room consisting of Hunt, Isiah Pacheco, Elijah Mitchell and Brashard Smith, the Chiefs have mutliple elements they can throw at a defense.
Hunt and Pacheco provide the muscle, while Mitchell and Smith bring the speed element, something the Chiefs didn't have last season. Now, with the ability to run the football in multiple ways, the hope is that the passing game will improve as a result of Kansas City being able to run the ball more effectively.
Well, that's the plan, anyway.
But for Hunt, last season was last season. He's turned over a new leaf and is loving life back at training camp, where he hopes to build a foundation that will lead to success in 2025.
