Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik shares an injury update on his thumb
Clemson saw an important step forward at quarterback on Wednesday, as Cade Klubnik returned to throwing after spending the early portion of bowl prep sidelined with a thumb issue.
Klubnik had been limited through the Tigers’ first four practices, including Monday’s session that was open to the media, which led to questions about his status. That changed behind the Allen Reeves Football Complex when the junior quarterback was back taking reps and throwing comfortably, signaling that the injury is no longer a major concern.
“It has felt good. It felt really good today,” Klubnik said. “It felt great today. It is definitely dang near hundred percent. So, it has been great. I love spinning the football and it has been great to get out there throwing.” Klubnik noted the time off was more about pacing himself than anything else. “It is a long season. Sometimes you just need a little bit of a rest.”
The injury itself dates back to Clemson’s win over South Carolina, when Klubnik hurt the thumb on his throwing hand during the game. He downplayed the severity when asked about it. “It kind of got lodged back, but yeah, it’s great,” he said.

With Klubnik trending in the right direction, Clemson can continue preparing for its postseason test without much uncertainty at the position. The Tigers are scheduled to meet Penn State in the Pinstripe Bowl, with kickoff set for noon on Dec. 27 at Yankee Stadium in New York.
