Commanders WR Jaylin Lane ruled out with an ankle injury vs. Eagles

Washington Commanders rookie wide receiver and punt returner Jaylin Lane has been ruled out for the second half of the Commanders' Week 16 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Lane suffered an ankle injury after taking a helmet to his lower leg after fielding a punt in the first quarter, and was taken to the blue medical tent for further evaluation.

He was listed as "questionable" to return to the game before the half, and just minutes before the second half kickoff was ruled "out."

Lane only recorded the single punt return and was not targeted as a receiver in his short time on the field before leaving the game.

He is in the second half of his rookie season with Washington, after being drafted in the fourth round out of Virginia Tech. He has notched 16 receptions for 225 yards as a receiver and has tallied a team-high two punt returns for touchdowns.

His 90-yard return in Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders earned him the Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week. While his injury is not the most significant for Washington's offense, cornerback Mike Sainristil will likely now field all punts in the second half.
