Dodgers Tommy Edman sent to Injured List with Ankle Injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers are making some roster moves ahead of their Saturday matchup against the Atlanta Braves

First, the team announced that international free agent signing Hyeseong Kim will make his major league debut. Kim signed a three-year deal worth $12.5 million and was anticipated to make the Opening Day roster, but spent the first month in Triple-A Oklahoma City.

In a corresponding move, the Dodgers are sending second baseman Tommy Edman to the Injured List as he's dealing with ankle inflammation that has kept him out of the lineup for the majority of this week. Edman hasn't played since Tuesday, so the IL stint has been retroactive to April 30.

The Dodgers may elect to give Kim some playing time at second base, but Los Angeles also has Miguel Rojas, Chris Taylor, and Kiké Hernández as options to take the middle infield slot. Edman will undoubtedly be a big loss, though, as he's off to one of the best/if not the best start to a season in his career. It will be Taylor getting the first start at second in the wake of the Edman IL move.

The move is no surprise to Dodgers fans who have seen plenty of their best players head to the IL early in the season. However, Los Angeles always builds for October, and there could be some carryover effect from winning the 2024 World Series.

It will be exciting to see Kim make his MLB debut, as everyone is curious to see what he can do at the big league level following good succes in the KBO, but the move for Edman being placed on the IL is a bit concerning for the team as he's provided so much production early in the season.
