Egypt camp rallies behind Salah as his crisis at Liverpool escalates
Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan has publicly backed captain Mohamed Salah.
Insisting the Liverpool forward will bounce back from his current club turmoil and lead Egypt towards continental glory at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Salah has been at the centre of major controversy in England following heated post match rant against Liverpool manager Arne Slot after being benched for the third consecutive Premier League match.

In remarks released by the Egyptian FA media centre, Hassan said:
“Mohamed Salah is great player. He will return stronger and better as we are used to seeing. He will continue writing history with Liverpool.. he is already one of their legends.”
He added that success with Egypt remains firmly in sight:
“Salah will make history with the national team at AFCON alongside the technical staff & his teammates by winning the title.”

Egypt are drawn into Group B alongside:
- Zimbabwe
- South Africa
- Angola
The Pharaohs begin their campaign on 22 December vs Zimbabwe followed by South Africa on the 26 & Angola on the 29.

The tournament runs in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
