Emmett Johnson Drafted By the Kansas City Chiefs
Our beloved Emmett Johnson was selected in the fifth round, the 161st pick overall by the Kansas City Chiefs. I know the Chiefs fans out there are thrilled that Emmitt is going to be on their team.
On the other hand there are those who hate the Chefs.
Are you going to start rooting for the Chiefs now or is Emmett Johnson dead to you?
Note that the Kansas City roster on ESPN already lists Johnson as RB3, behind Kenneth Walker III, and
Emari Demercado. If you’re thinking – where is Isiah Pacheco? He apparently signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Lions last week.
Johnson is the first Nebraska running back to be taken in the draft since 2015. Ameer Abdullah was drafted in 2015. That’s….. an eon ago. My God, how far have we fallen.
Emmett was the sixth running back selected. Jeremiyah Love of Notre Dame went in the first round. Jadarian Price of Notre Dame also went in the first round. Third was Kaelon Black from Indiana. followed by Jonah Coleman of Washington and Mike Washington of Arkansas.
Johnson was a Doak Walker Award and Maxwell Award semifinalist in 2025. He ranked second nationally with 1,821 yards from scrimmage and he was fourth nationally in rushing yards per game at 120.9. He averaged 5.8 yards per carry.
I am not a Kansas City Chiefs fan but I don’t hate them like some people do. I will admit that I enjoy people complaining about Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift and the fact that the NFL purposely calls penalties to get the Chiefs to the Super Bowl.
Having said all that, I am happy that Emmett Johnson is going to go to a team that seems to be reasonably managed and he won’t have to spend his life in despair… in other words, he didn’t go to Cleveland, or Carolina, or that hellhole in Denver.
