Fever stun Dream in Game 3, Advance to first WNBA semifinals since 2015

After extending the best-of-three first-round series to a decisive Game 3 on Thursday night from Gateway Center in College Park, Georgia, the No. 6 Indiana Fever defeated the No. 3 Atlanta Dream by a score of 87-85 to advance to the WNBA semifinals for the first time since 2015.

Offensively for the Fever, Kelsey Mitchell led the team by scoring 24 points on 7-for-16 from the field and 7-for-7 from the free-throw line in 29 minutes of action. Odyssey Sims' 16, Aliyah Boston's 14, Natasha Howard's 12, and Lexie Hull's 10 points were all crucial towards keeping pace with an Atlanta offense that shot 50% from the floor.

While Atlanta led for a vast majority of the contest, it was Indiana's seven unanswered points in the game's final moments, highlighted by a Boston layup with 7.4 seconds remaining, that proved to be the difference maker on the scoreboard.

Lexie Hull's clutch steal off an Atlanta inbound pass quite possibly is what saved Indiana's season, as it forced the Dream to foul with 1.2 seconds remaining. While the Fever only made one-of-two shots from the line, the Dream were forced into a highly contested shot due to the limited time.

While the Fever have been decimated by five season-ending injuries to Sophie Cunningham (torn MCL), Sydney Colson (torn ACL), Aari McDonald (broken bone in foot), Chloe Bibby (knee inflammation/discomfort), and Caitlin Clark (right groin), the Game 3 victory was an embodiment of the team's relentless battle and determination to defy the odds.

The remarkable series victory also comes as Indiana played without Damirus Dantas, who has been in the concussion protocol throughout the entire series.

By virtue of No. 2-seeded Las Vegas barely holding on in their Game 3 victory over No. 7 seed Seattle, the Fever will now advance to a best-of-five WNBA Semifinals series against the Aces.
