French reports say Odobert out “weeks to months” with ACL injury
Want some more positive injury news? Well I don’t have any. In fact, I have the complete opposite. According to French paper Le Parisienne, France U21 international and Tottenham Hotspur winger Wilson Odobert will be out “weeks to months” after injuring his ACL in Spurs’ 2-1 loss to Newcastle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last night.
Odobert was subbed off midway through the first half after appearing to tweak his knee in the match and was replaced by Mathys Tel after being attended to by the Spurs physios for an extended period of time. Odobert walked off the pitch and down the tunnel under his own power, but the Le Parisienne report says that Wilson ruptured his ACL, an injury that might require surgery to correct.
This is further injury-related disaster not only for Tottenham, but also for Odobert whom I’m sure had hopes of making the World Cup squad for France this summer. That seems to be out of the picture now.
With Odobert’s injury, Spurs now have twelve first team players out with long term injuries, and are down to just four first team attackers for four positions. While I’m too lazy to actually look it up, I believe this eclipses the worst injury crisis under Ange Postecoglou last season, and there’s the very real possibility that whoever Spurs’ interim manager is will need to heavily rely on Tottenham academy graduates and U21 players until some first teamers come back into the fold.
Injury crises like the one Spurs have endured for the past two seasons are usually down to a confluence of factors including too many football matches and just sheer dumb luck. I have no idea and will not speculate on what’s causing this one, only that it’s real and it sucks blue whale (the largest animal to exist on planet earth).
Spurs have 11 days until they play Arsenal. Hopefully there’s some magic horse placenta or something out there that can generate a miracle.
