Greenfield native Tyler Herro has huge game in NBA play-in tournament
Technically, the stats from the play-in games don't count anywhere, so Tyler Herro didn't get credit for a playoff career high Wednesday. But the Whitnall High School alumnus still picked a great time for a great game.
Herro, who turned 25 in January, scored 38 points — his official playoff career best is 37 — and the Miami Heatdispatched Chicago, 109-90, in an elimination game of the NBA's play-in tournament April 16. The Heat advanced to face the Atlanta Hawks on April 18, with the winner earning the No. 8 seed in the full-fledged portion of the postseason.
Herro shot 13 for 19, including 8 for 8 in his 23-point first half. The Bulls swept Miami in the regular season, 3-0, but saw their season end at the United Center.
The performance marked a continuation of Herro's breakout season. His career-best 23.9 points per game ranked him top-20 in the league in scoring. He set a career-best mark in assists (5.5 per game) and field-goal percentage (47.2%) while making his first all-star team.
Play-in game stats do not count in the official regular-season nor playoff record-book.
