Here's how much it will (roughly) cost to watch every NFL game in the 2025 season

Being a devout, diehard NFL fan in 2025 isn't what it used to be.

Rather than simply watching most of the games with an over-the-air antenna or with a robust cable package like in the good old days, the league has instead taken the greediest possible path. It has decided to capitalize on the passive desires of millions of hungry football watchers, many of whom will half-heartedly put any game on in the background of their living room while they mindlessly scroll social media on their phone.

Because any football is apparently good football, or something. The catch is that the money-hungry NFL knows that's how everyone thinks. Yes, that's more than enough to make your stomach churn.

As this week's 2025 NFL schedule release unfolds, we're slowly gaining more clarity about which specific games this season will be on which specific channels. Are the Jacksonville (London) Jaguars heading to England again? You bet. Is the NFL probably going to milk the cash cow that is the Kansas City Chiefs for all it's worth across as many platforms as possible? You'd be naive to think otherwise.

The worst part of this dynamic is the sheer cost. As the NFL bastardizes itself across seemingly every channel and streamer imaginable, it asks more and more of the bog-standard, dedicated pro football fan's wallet. It takes advantage of a sports fan relationship that should, at its core, be sacred and protected, not strung out for every last penny and decimal point.

Of course, NFL fans don't have to shell out for every viewing option to have access to every game in 2025.

For one, I'm sure their families and friends will appreciate them being more present on fall weekends. For the other, it is indeed possible to foster other, much healthier hobbies that don't involve watching two teams with a combined seven wins on a Thursday Night Football matchup in late October. No one is forcing you to glue yourself to watching every last morsel of pro football there is to offer! You can, in fact, take a stand and ask the NFL to earnestly reinvest in cable again!

But hey, no judgment here. I swear.

If you are one of those people who plan to at least have some measure of access to every NFL game this coming season, here's how much it will roughly cost you (no tax included because I can't account for where everyone lives in a country with over 340 million people). Also, I obviously can't include any deals, promotions, free trials, and specific launch periods, because those can also differ for everyone based on their subscription past and location.

This calculation is very general. You can add the additional tax and promo math you need to it on your own.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

(Note: Some playoff games are potential one-offs for streamers but are mostly over-the-air. This is accounting for the regular season only.)

The All-Encompassing NFL 2025 Viewing Plan

  • (For CBS/Fox/NBC/ABC games that aren't blacked out locally) One average over-the-air antenna: $40
  • (For CBS/Fox/NBC/ABC games that are blacked out locally) A standard Sunday Ticket annual subscription ($379) AND a monthly base subscription (4X) to YouTube TV ($73): $671 total (Psst, remember when I said watching every single game is optional?)
  • (For Netflix Christmas games) A standard with ads subscription (one-time): $8
  • (For Amazon Prime Video Thursday Night Football games) A standard monthly (4X) subscription: $36
  • (For Peacock-exclusive games) A premium monthly subscription: $8
  • (For ESPN Monday Night Football games) A monthly subscription (4X) to ESPN+ ($12), a monthly (4X) subscription to ESPN's direct streaming service ($30), OR a monthly subscription (4X) to a Disney+/Hulu/ESPN bundle ($30): $48 or $120

Rough total: $811 or $883

If you want to spend that much money accounting for every NFL game this coming regular season, more power to you. At least you know where you'll stand and that your wallet will definitely hate you after the fact. And know that Roger Goodell and all 32 owners will be laughing all the way to the bank. Well, more than they already do.
